Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, I was deeply attached to the church for consumed much of my spare time as I worked in sales and management for thirty plus years.  But fittingly at a Walk to Emmaus in 2011 my eyes were opened -  that God had other plans for me.  For the next two years, he redirected my life and career . . . . serving only Him.  While serving Zion as it's Pastor I also attend Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta - formally for 3 weeks in July with continuous study throughout the year.

My wife, Nancy, and I have been married for 40 years and have been blessed with a wonderful walk despite the challenging potholes and detours that have been thrown in our path, for they have only made our faith in God and love for each other stronger.  Our spare time is spent outdoors; hiking, camping, yard work, and gardening.

Our son, Greg, is the head Groundskeeper for a minor league baseball team.  He and his wife, Korrinn, live in Fountain Inn along with our two grandsons, Evan and Jake and a granddaughter on the way in June. Our daughter, Mary Leigh, is an insurance manager of a pediatric surgical group in Charlotte.  She and her husband, Charles, live in Rock Hill and have a daughter, Ellison Leigh and a son, Henry.

Nancy and I met at the University of Georgia where we both received a BBA in Business/Marketing.  Prior to the ministry, my career was focused on agriculture and turfgrass industry - but always serving people.

I believe everyone has a gift waiting to be uncovered; I believe God's grace gives us hope in even in the darkest times;  As an eternal optimist, I believe the best is yet to come!

Nancy and I are so blessed to call Zion our home and love working with all to make disciples for Christ!

Faith, hope, and love in Christ,

Pastor Mike Burgess
